Testimonials

“I have felt for a long time that we do not get to know our clients well enough before we begin a job search.  The Discovery process addresses that concern and the work associated with it provides ample material for a thorough understanding of the job seeker, his skills, his challenges and his personality.  I really like the Visual Resume approach for those with the greatest challenges.  That, in itself, quickly alerts the prospective employer to the job seeker's skill sets.  Add the Needs Analysis and it will be apparent whether or not the job seeker may make a good fit with that company.  I like not taking my job seeker to that first meeting because if there is no interest at all, he/she is saved disappointment.  With this approach those with the greatest challenges have representation and a much greater likelihood of employment, especially long term.  More work up front equals greater retention on the back end.”

“The Discovery training was eye opening for me as a parent for 26 years and job developer for 19 years. I love how the process really allows you to get to know the person, their skills, passions and how they can find a place to belong in the world of work. It has gotten me to look at my son with Down syndrome differently, keeping a more open mind to his abilities and my expectations for him. I look forward to using this training to increase possibilities!”

“I believe that Customized Employment expands your professional skills while also providing an opportunity for many Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who may not have been considered for employment in the past but still deserve a chance to find integrated employment.”

- Samantha Sweet, Supported Employment Provider

"While MG&A’s approach to Customized Employment establishes the defined process, it is flexible enough to tailor it to the job seeker’s talents and interests. The training is clear, concise and thorough which provides an excellent base of knowledge for staff to follow while allowing the job seeker to fully participate in the process. Staff gain confidence in not only discovering the job seekers strengths, abilities and interests but also in their approach with employers. I can’t begin to describe how much it has benefited the job seeker, staff and community."

- Nanette Cohen, Director of Duman Opportunity Center

"Early in my career I worked as a job coach in a sheltered workshop. Largely the focus was on training individuals on specific piece rate tasks and attempting to help them increase productivity. If they could do this, then maybe they could get jobs of their own in integrated settings. Of course, if they couldn’t do the very narrow set of tasks available, they weren’t deemed as skilled enough to have their own job. I think back to the many people that I supported then and how they were motivated to work, but it was us that limited much of their potential by not figuring out what they wanted to do, what they could do, and what their conditions for success likely would be. My experience is that using MG&A’s approach to customized employment shows that these things can be figured out for individuals that experience a significant impact of disability and can lead to them having real jobs at real wages."
